At Lula Grove Homeschool Nook, we love blending movement with learning to help young children thrive. One of our favorite classroom exercises is Number Action, a playful way to reinforce counting skills while encouraging physical activity.
This activity is ideal for kindergarten and first-grade learners. To begin, prepare flashcards numbered from 1 to 10 (or higher depending on ability). On the board, write action words like skip, clap, hop, tap, and jump. If your learners aren’t reading yet, simply say the action aloud.
During the game, hold up a number card and point to an action word. For example, if you show the number 3 and point to tap, the student will tap three times. Rotate through different numbers and actions to give everyone a turn.
This exercise is a wonderful way to:
- Practice number recognition and counting
- Build listening and motor skills
- Keep energy levels up during learning time
Simple, effective, and fun—Number Action is a Lula Grove favorite for active learning!
