Homeschool Nook Activity: Blindfold Counting Game (Grades K–1)

Looking for a fun and interactive way to reinforce counting skills with your early learners? The Blindfold Counting Game is a classroom favorite that blends movement, mystery, and math—all in one joyful circle!

🧺 Preparation & Materials

All you need is:

  • A clean scarf or cloth to use as a blindfold
  • A group of children ready to play
  • A safe space where kids can form a circle

🧠 How to Play

Invite Ella to be the first “It.” Blindfold her gently and guide her to the center of the circle. The rest of the children will march around her in a circle until she calls out, “Stop!”

At that moment, Ella will point toward the circle. The child she points to becomes the counter. They can use their regular voice or a silly one—but everyone must be able to understand the numbers!

As the counting begins, Ella gets three guesses to identify who is counting. If she guesses correctly, the counter becomes the new “It.” If not, Ella stays in the center for another round.

🔢 Learning Variations

To add a math twist, try counting by:

  • 2s
  • 5s
  • 10s

This variation helps reinforce skip counting in a playful setting.
