Looking for a simple, high-energy way to practice number writing and sequencing with your little learners? The Number Writing Race is a classroom (or homeschool) favorite that gets kids moving, laughing, and learning—all at the same time!
This activity is perfect for Kindergarten and 1st grade and helps children:
✅ Practice writing numbers neatly
✅ Learn correct number order from 1–100
✅ Build teamwork skills
✅ Burn off a little extra energy in a positive way
How It Works 🏁
-
Divide your group into two teams.
-
Each team takes turns walking to the board (or large grid sheet) to write the next number in sequence.
-
The first team to correctly reach 100 wins!
-
If a number is written sloppily or incorrectly, it has to be erased and tried again.
Kids love the excitement, and it’s a great way to sneak in number practice without it feeling like “work.”

✨ Tip: Keep the pace fun but safe by reminding kids to walk, not run when it’s their turn. The little moments of suspense when one team makes a mistake always make the game even more exciting!
