Number Writing Race: A Fun 100-Chart Math Game for Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Looking for a simple, high-energy way to practice number writing and sequencing with your little learners? The Number Writing Race is a classroom (or homeschool) favorite that gets kids moving, laughing, and learning—all at the same time!

This activity is perfect for Kindergarten and 1st grade and helps children:
✅ Practice writing numbers neatly
✅ Learn correct number order from 1–100
✅ Build teamwork skills
✅ Burn off a little extra energy in a positive way

How It Works 🏁

  1. Divide your group into two teams.

  2. Each team takes turns walking to the board (or large grid sheet) to write the next number in sequence.

  3. The first team to correctly reach 100 wins!

  4. If a number is written sloppily or incorrectly, it has to be erased and tried again.

Kids love the excitement, and it’s a great way to sneak in number practice without it feeling like “work.”

✨ Tip: Keep the pace fun but safe by reminding kids to walk, not run when it’s their turn. The little moments of suspense when one team makes a mistake always make the game even more exciting!
