Welcome back to the Homeschool Nook at Lula Grove! Today’s activity is a fun and interactive way to help young learners practice counting and number recognition. Inspired by classic classroom games, this exercise turns your child into a busy postman delivering letters to city apartments!
🧰 What You’ll Need:
- A whiteboard or sheet of paper
- A marker or pencil
- A diagram like the one below:
___________________________
/ \
| 3 | 7 | 4 | 9 |
|_____|_____|_____|_____|
| 8 | 6 | 2 | 5 |
|_____|_____|_____|_____|
Each number represents how many letters to be delivered to that apartment.
🗣️ How to Play:
- Set the Scene: Tell your child, “Let’s pretend you’re a postman and this is your apartment building. Each number shows how many letters you need to deliver.”
- Deliver the Mail: Point to an apartment and ask your child to draw one checkmark (✓) for each letter they would deliver. For example, if you point to apartment 7, they should draw seven checkmarks below it.
- Take Turns: Erase and repeat with different numbers. Let each child have a turn if you're working with a group.
✏️ Learning Goals:
- Reinforces counting skills
- Builds number recognition
- Encourages fine motor practice
- Adds imaginative play to math time
