📝 The Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk or water
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix brown sugar, shortening, eggs, and buttermilk. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  2. Heat oven to 400°F. Grease cookie sheet.
  3. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched. Immediately remove from cookie sheet; cool on wire rack.

Yields: About 6 dozen cookies
