With just three ingredients—butter, sugar, and all-purpose flour—you’ll have a batch of melt-in-your-mouth cookies ready in no time.

Whether you're baking for the holidays, hosting a tea party, or adding a nostalgic touch to your dessert tray, this easy shortbread cookie recipe is a must-have in your collection.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter or margarine, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Gradually stir in the flour until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels crumbly, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of softened butter or margarine to help it come together.

  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick. Cut into small shapes using cookie cutters or shape by hand. Place cookies about ½ inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

  4. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the cookies are set. Transfer immediately to a wire rack to cool.

For a Festive Twist

Dip the edges of your cooled cookies in melted chocolate, then into chopped pistachios for a beautiful and flavorful finish. It’s a simple way to elevate your shortbread for special occasions.
