These bars are a decadent fusion of buttery oats, creamy caramel, semisweet chocolate chips, and crunchy nuts. Whether you're pairing them with a warm mug of apple cider or serving them at a fall get-together, they’re sure to be a hit.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag (14 ounces) caramels
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 package (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or dry-roasted peanuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 13x9x2-inch rectangular baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the caramels with milk, stirring often until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and egg. Use a fork to mix in the softened butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. Press half of the crumb mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over the baked base. Drizzle with the melted caramel mixture, then top with the remaining crumb mixture.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 30 minutes, loosen edges, and allow to cool completely before cutting.
