Ingredients
- 1 package active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm water (105° to 115°F)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2½ cups Bisquick baking mix
- 2 tablespoons soft butter
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- ⅓ cup raisins
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Quick Icing:
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1 to 2 teaspoons warm water
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
- Add the egg, granulated sugar, and Bisquick mix. Stir until well blended.
- Move the dough to a floured surface and knead about 20 times until smooth.
- Roll the dough into a 16x9-inch rectangle. Spread with butter and sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar, raisins, and cinnamon.
- Starting from the wide edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Seal the edge by pinching it closed.
- Place the roll seam-side down on a greased baking sheet and shape it into a ring. Pinch the ends together to seal.
- Use scissors to make 1-inch cuts around the ring, slicing about two-thirds of the way through. Gently turn each section on its side.
- Let the ring rise in a warm spot (around 85°F) until it doubles in size—about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While still warm, drizzle with Quick Icing and serve fresh.
This classic tea ring is not only delicious but also makes a beautiful centerpiece for your breakfast table. It’s a wonderful way to bring a little old-fashioned charm into your kitchen.
